Genetic testing for Maxim is a step towards understanding and proper treatment!

Maxim has been battling his illness since 2021. Until he was 1 year and 8 months old, he was developing well, learning skills on time, and delighting his parents with his first words. But then he began to regress: Maxim stopped talking, lost eye contact, stopped responding to his name, and developed autistic traits. A similar situation happened with his older brother.

Maxim is now 6 years old. From time to time, he starts talking again, which gives his family hope. But then the words disappear again. The family lives in constant anticipation of the answer to the main question: why is this happening and how can they help their child?

This is why genetic testing is extremely important. It allows us to establish the possible cause of developmental delay, determine the exact diagnosis, and choose the right treatment and rehabilitation strategy. Without understanding the root cause, it is difficult to develop an effective plan of action. Such research is necessary for children with similar symptoms, as it paves the way for targeted therapy rather than ‘blind’ treatment.

Thanks to the support of donors, the Bonum Ukraine Foundation paid for expensive genetic testing for Maxim. This is an important step towards helping him start talking, developing, and interacting with the world more confidently.
