Konstantin’s New Steps: A Rehabilitation Update!

Bonum continues to support a family with three children, two of whom have special needs.
In 2025, our Foundation helped the eldest son, Roman, by covering the cost of his dental treatment. This year, support was directed towards the younger son — Konstantin — specifically to pay for a course of rehabilitation.

Konstantin is 11 years old. He has a rare diagnosis — spinocerebellar ataxia type 29 (ITPR1 gene mutation) — and is the only child with this diagnosis in Ukraine. The condition affects his motor coordination, development and cognitive functions. The boy does not speak, and his main means of movement is ‘crawling’.
Thanks to his perseverance and regular rehabilitation, Konstantin is gradually developing new skills: he moves short distances with a walker and is beginning to learn to use crutches. He is in Year 4, knows the alphabet, and is trying to learn to read and draw.
His rehabilitation has focused on strengthening his muscles and developing coordination. The results achieved are positive, so it is important to continue systematic work to
consolidate these skills.
