Darinka is a 16-year-old girl from Berdiansk whose life has been changed twice by struggle: first by war, and then by serious illness.
After the occupation of her hometown, Darynka and her mother were forced to move first to Zaporizhzhia, and then to Uman. Despite all the trials, the girl became cheerful again, found new friends, studied excellently, engaged in creative activities, and was an activist at school.
In June 2025, Darynka and her mother went on a trip to the sea in Turkey. During a boat trip, Darynka was bitten on the hand by a spider (it was not possible to identify it). The bite was treated, and it looked no different from a normal mosquito bite, but the next day the symptoms began: headache and dizziness, tingling in the heart and severe pain in the arm. Subsequently, her condition deteriorated. The child's condition was dire – she was unable to walk or move normally, experienced epileptic seizures (up to eight per day), severe headaches, mood swings, and many other symptoms.
After numerous hospitalisations, doctors made a difficult diagnosis – autoimmune subcortical encephalitis.
Since July, Darynka has been undergoing a course of treatment that helps restore coordination, memory and strength. The course is very expensive and is needed every month, as there is improvement after it.
The Bonum Ukraine Charitable Foundation paid for Darynka's treatment to support her in her fight for health.
Every day, Darynka bravely overcomes pain and fatigue, returning to life step by step.
She is an example of great strength, patience, and faith in a better future.
