The Bonum Ukraine Charitable Foundation, together with caring individuals, has been able to fund implants for both legs for two brothers. Kirill and Roman have been battling a severe orphan disease – type I mucopolysaccharidosis – since childhood.
In addition to their primary diagnosis, both boys have M20.1 — a valgus deformity of the feet, which has progressed rapidly over the years and causes severe pain when walking.
The children complained of pain in their shoes, and a bone began to protrude near the big toe. Following an examination, doctors at the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialised Hospital recommended surgery — a distal Chevron osteotomy of the first metatarsal bone with screw fixation.

Kirill and Roman were born healthy, but from an early age their parents noticed a growth delay and foot deformities.
Since 2018, the boys have been undergoing lifelong enzyme replacement therapy. After the family moved from the Kherson region to the Kyiv region in 2022, the children’s condition began to deteriorate: the foot deformities worsened, the boys began walking on their toes and were unable to step down on their heels properly. They have already undergone botulinum toxin therapy and Achilles tendon lengthening surgery, but the condition continued to progress.

Today, the brothers are being discharged home and they are very grateful to everyone for their help!
The Foundation supports families with more than one sick child, as for such parents the struggle becomes twice as hard: emotionally, physically and financially. And it is thanks to your donations that we can be there for them in the most difficult moments.
